Drumroll, please....

Well, it's a little darker than I wanted, but I LIKE IT!!
I went to my small town hairdresser, showed her picture #3, and here's what went down:

Her: Uh, you're not wanting to do this are you?
Me: Not the color, just the cut.
Her: Oh, good!
Me: I'm going to do the color at home.
Her: Please don't. You'll melt your hair off.
Me: I can't afford to have you do it, and your color is weak. Sorry, but it is.
Her: You're hopeless, but I love you.
Me: I know.
Her: Go ahead and make an appointment for tomorrow, and I'll fix your hair after you melt it off.
Me: (trembling in fear) I'll come back and show you what happens!

It worked! I bleached my hair for the first time, then colored it all over.
I learned several things about bleach. (Kellie, I should've emailed you first.)

1. bleach burns really, really bad (remember the scene from Malcom X when Denzel was bleaching his hair and he burned his scalp? Yeah...I felt his pain.)
2. bleach is a mystery (you might end up orange, blond, or white)
3. bleach can whiten your skin (even when you are whiter than a sheet to start with)

So, I hope you enjoyed this adventure as much as I did. Thank you guys for making it so much fun for me. I sure do appreciate all the support you've shown, even if it goes against the grain!

Steady on,

Pinky

Let me say that you look MARVELOUS!!! Also, my respect for you has grown even more seeing you with a Christmas shirt on well into the month of April -- and Dr. Seuss at that!!! ;) HEE HEE HEE

Oh, my gosh. I don't hate it. Tie me down!!

You have GUTS, kid! Ya, I really kinda like it.

Pinky said...

Whew! You guys know how to make a gal feel good!
Z, I'm so glad you approve! Guts? I don't know, it's really a combination of stupidity and boredom. :-)

Jason, you wanted purple, you got it, my friend!! I was shotting for a pinky/purple, but this will work just fine. And the Seuss shirt, yeah. It's really pajamas, but don't all tired-purple-haired moms wear their pj's during the day?

Steph...it's your turn! just kidding!

Eitan said...

Looks fine, don't worry bout the townsfolk. They should like it just as much as I do...

Z, Nanc, Jason, Brooke:
I've be en reading Beamish's and Farmer John's blog's today...and my brain hurts. ;-)
I don't know that I have the IQ for that stuff, but I'll stick with it. (especially Beamish...a lot of inside jokes.)

Pinky said...

Thanks, Eitan. They'll get used to it, and if they don't...pppbbbththt.

I like it! I like it! Amanda would be SO proud of you! I'd best not show her these pictures or she's going to be wanting to go purple next and with the current color(s) in her hair, I'm not at all sure how it would bleach out as - like you said - bleach is tricky and if it doesn't go pure white (like Amanda's doesn't) then the color you end up with looks a lot different than the color you were going for.

You are just too cool for words; I wish I could be this bold but I believe it's out of the question as far as my uniform policy at work goes. Besides, I wear a maroon uniform shirt and I'm pretty sure that purple would clash!

Eitan said...

Beamish is deep, huh? Dya know he's running for virtual office?

Pinky said...

Yeah, Beamish is deep. Today's post nearly made me pee in my pants! (j.k.) I really am scared of Hal from 2001. creepy
Yes, i do know he's running for office. I'm thinking he's got my vote!

Linda, well, you can always get a hidden tattoo...;-)

Stephanie said...

Gee, wonder what color my silvering hair would turn if I did the purple dye thing?

Oh, and is it the wash out in 8 shampoos color or is it more permanent than that?

Gutsy, girl!

pinky...re: Beamish and Farmer John? Unbeatable. Don't feel intimidated; they're BRILLIANT and we just have to feel lucky to be recipients of that brilliance! YOu're so right.

Kellie said...

You did it and it is Stinkin' Awesome! I was really digging the number 1 do for you ...but this is too cool! Doesn't it make you feel fantastic to do something a little on the wild and unexpected side and have it turn out great?! You're pretty much my hero too now!

And yep, I do know a thing or two about bleach in an unfortunate sort of way ;)

MamaGeek said...

NO WAY! YOU ROCK! YES, you do. You really really do!

Pinky said...

Stephanie, I say let's find out. Your daughter would FREAK! This will fade in about 6 weeks, then I'll go PINK!

Z, I'm going to keep reading, although I probably won't comment out of fear of completely embarrasing myself. :-p

Kellie, it does make me feel good, I just wish it were more PINK!

MamaGeek, Thank you, really, thank you!

Casey said...

You are so brave! And I thought I had experimented with color! You top me 1000 percent! It rocks!

Pinky said...

This isn't my first time, Casey, but it's definitely the biggest leap into color!
Thanks!

I wish I had the guts to do it. Actually, if I didn't have a husband that cared so much about what my hair looks like, I would go fushia! Love it girl!

Steph said...

after seeing how awesome yours turned out i'm giving it some serious thought...

'cept maybe i'll go blue instead, so it can match my eyes. my hair would then become more like an accessorize than a body part. and, hey, i'm all about accessorizing. ;)

you may have started something here!

Steph said...

oh, dang. i just re-read my comment and realized i meant to say "my hair would then become more like an accessory" (it's late/early) but instead of deleting and re-posting my comment i decided to pad your box some more. ;)

Steph said...

huh. more padding. it's 12:55 am, not 10:55 like this says...

no-you.did.not.
*gasp*
well, I must say it goes with your eyes!
What do you do when it starts growing out and where on earth do you buy purple hair dye?
I actually thought a few light pink strips near lmy face might be cute but my boss would probably want to fire me *L*
You rock.

Pinky said...

Kellie C!!!! Where ya been girl??? Good to see ya again!

Steph, I look forward to the blue, yes, it would look fabulous with your amazing eyes. Padding? I dunno, I probably messed the time up somehow.

Birdie, yes I did! Well...uh...I hadn't quite thought that far ahead. Thanks for sending me into a panic attack! ;-) I guess I'll have to get on ebay and find more color b/c it will grow out quickly. Thanks for reminding me. !

I can't even get myself to highlight. You are my brave hero. Seriously, Pinky/Purpley, you have a passion for life and a love for fun that is shining forth in the unexpected things you do.

KEEP BELIEVING

MandyB said...

WOOHOO! You are a brave woman...I do like it. I thought I was steppin out on the wild side by cutting mine off, you beat me on that!! Looks Awesome!

Pinky said...

Angie, I'm probably more stodgy in certain areas than others...but hair? It grows out. These realtors are forcing me to repaint my walls "neutral" and I have to get some color into my life somehow...

Mandy, hey girl! I love your hair.
Thanks for the compliment. Sorry I haven't been to your blog lately..I lost the link.

Brooke said...

I love that dark purple! Very cool!

The Frank Family said...

Keep the individualist faith!!! Tell those realtors to take their cookie cutter "neutral" paint ideas and shove 'em!!! We have four bedrooms.
#1 -- Dark Purple
#2 -- Green & Yellow
#3 -- Moss Green
#4 -- Purple & Very Dark Geen

Jason, you just described my house, with different colors! There's something about color...it says a lot about a person, doesn't it?
Hey, so does being a U2 fan. :-)
What song is that from?

FJ, is awesome! I don't comment much and have started reading Beamish a bit...I want a gas mask!!!!

Acrobat -- from Achtung Baby

Pinky said...

JM, yes, they are both amazing...they make my brain cramp...in a good way! I've never googled and research as much as I have in the past week! ;-)

Jason, I have to confess that Achtung Baby is one of my least favorites. My hubby loves it, but I tuned them out during Achtung, Pop, and Zooropa.
I'm back on track for the last few years. I like the old school stuff and the 'back to our roots stuff'.
The Fly and MacPhisto just irked me for some reason.
If you scroll down a few posts you'll see that I have an incurable crush on Bono...it's a weakness.

The Frank Family said...

I completely agree with you and it's good to find someone that shares my opinion. There is nothing like War or Boy or Joshua Tree even Rattle and Hum. When they switched to Achtung Baby it was quite a let down. I remember it because I was the coolest person in school for one day because I purchased Achtung Baby two days before it was released. The music store had accidentally put them out, a mistake that was soon remedied after I had purchased my copy. Achtung has a couple of good songs on and is acceptable to someone who loves U2 but Pop and Zooropa are certainly unacceptable. I am so glad that they have finally come full circle and back to the style that speaks to my heart.

Pinky said...

Me, too! Yehweh brings me to tears, just like 40 did.
good stuff, good stuff.

That's completely fun! Hm...

Pinky said...

Thanks, Dawn!

very very cute!!

I have a few suggestions that will keep you from having to burn your head as I did this for years many moons ago...just didn't use PURPLE!!

orange might have been cute too.....

love ya

oh and any more gray shows up and I'll be maroon.

Thanks, MM!

Hey. You stole my purple hair idea. Just kidding. Now we can be sisters. Where do you get your purple hair dye? I want something that isn't permenat.

Mommy of 5

Pinky said...

mommyof5,
I meant to call you back on Thurs...I still will.
I bought mine at a store in the mall, but you can get it on eBay. It lasts about 6-8 weeks, then fades. I bleached mine first (don't know if you'll want to do that.)

The Frank Family said...

How did your first day of work with the new hair go?

Pinky said...

Jason, the therapists were less than thrilled, but the patients loved it!! Funny that the 30 something's frowned but the 80 year olds were cool with it.
Life!

The Frank Family said...

What the blue hairs are more open minded about purple hairs? ;)

Pinky said...

HA!

Eitan said...

Blue? Wouldn't that be white? At any rate, I get your point...I think.

Killlashandra said...

Whoa, the cut is cute and I hope the purple doesn't wash into a lighter color later on. And yeah, bleach is really bad for your hair and burns. Honey, please use lots of conditioner.

Pinky said...

Killlashandra, yes the purple will fade to light purple, etc. I haven't quite planned for the next irrational hair experiment, but it'll work out..I hope.

I just bought some Aussie 3 minute miracle TODAY! :-) It's goooooood.

ROCK ON PINKY!!! That kicks ass! Not many parents have the 'equivalent of balls to a female' to do this. I dyed my hair blond once, believe it or not (this was when I was single and certainly pre-kid). It actually looked good and I left it for a week (my hair was longer back then), then I dyed it dark red. That actually looked great too. Very very cool, Pinky!!

Pinky said...

I knew you'd like it BD!!!
Thanks for stopping by...hey, did ya hear that music? Save a dance for me, will ya?
